Lameness Control and Locomotion Scoring

Lameness is a very costly disease having a negative impact on cow condition and well being.  Lame cows eat less, are less likely to conceive, are more prone to mastitis and are more likely to end up leaving the farm as barren cows.

We strongly advise farmers to implement a routine program of foot trimming and foot bathing. Dairy cows should have their feet trimmed at least twice yearly, at drying off and then again in mid lactation. Regular foot bathing can help reduce the incidence of digital dermatitis and other infectious foot problems. We recommend various foot bathing programs using antibiotics or disinfectants depending on the severity of the problem on the farm.

Please contact the practice if you would like more information regarding foot bathing solutions for your farm.
